| Composition of School Wide Assistive Technology (SWAT) Teams
Two Special Education Teachers
Two are needed:
One familiar with mild to moderate special needs.
One familiar with learners with more intensive Special Needs within Collaborative programs and/or inclusive programs
These Special Education teachers will: - Analyze what the learner needs to do;
- Take into account the learner's special needs;
- Determine the learner's current abilities; and
- assist with the modification of tasks and materials that can help the learner accomplish the classroom activities.
Speech/Language Pathologist
Contribute an understanding of ways to maximize a learner's communication and use of language throughout the classroom curriculum and other daily activities. Recommendations for vocabulary or other language issues, including written language, and design of communication boards are also included.
Orthopedic Specialist
Assists with seating and positioning, control site and adaptive access to technology through their fine motor skills, comfort and safety in the classroom are additional concerns which are included in this role.
General Education Teacher
Represents the curriculum areas and learning goals to be modified and assists with strategies for scaffolding the learner in the least restrictive environment.
Technology Coordinator
Assists with day-to-day technical support and simple troubleshooting, or facilitates contact with manufacturers of products that may require classroom support
Paraprofessional
Provides support to both learners and teachers as needed. Such support might include coaching learners in the use of the technology, creating custom interventions and collecting data or observing implementation results
Administrator
Anchors the Team with supportive scheduling, understanding funding/resources and other management issues such as IEP development or implementation issues
